Fit #1
Bright sunny day. Low 70s. I started this fit with a beautiful aqua blue butcher stripe broadcloth. Light and thin, crisp and cool. This shirt is perfect for today. Next, the pants. These stone chinos were a quick and easy choice. As for the socks and the shoes. I went with no socks and dark oxblood penny loafers. Why? No socks is a warm weather choice. Today is one of the first warm days of the year. Once it gets over 70, I consider that warm. Last, the belt. Matching the loafers, it is a dark leather. Simple and elegant.
What’s notable? First, the shirt. I love the aqua blue. It’s like a blue, but just a little more summery. I love shirts and stripes like this. They are nudged just a little in a certain direction (in this case toward the warm weather) and the piece becomes just a little more interesting, and a little more seasonal. I picked this shirt up at a thrift store for just a few dollars some years back. It is from Paul Fredrick. The collar has a nice roll and the pocket is a great size as well. I love a nice big pocket.
The fit is also nice and roomy. Of course, I love this with an OCB,D but it is particularly important when it comes to warm weather shirts like a broadcloth. When it is hot outside, you want to make sure your shirt has room to billow. You don’t want the fabric clinging to your body. That is the key to staying cool in the warm weather.
I didn’t always like no socks with loafers. I used to reserve the no sock look for boat shoes only. I like the no socks with loafers more now. Some things grow on you. It says summer without adding anything. It’s actually something that is subtracted that makes the summer feeling come across. That’s an interesting thing. Think about that. So often it is what we add that pushes a fit into a certain season or feeling. In this instance, it is what we subtract.
